Graylog deployment, engineered for production
A Graylog installation takes an afternoon. A Graylog platform that survives disk growth, traffic spikes and upgrades takes engineering. We deliver the second one.
- ingest:
- sized from measured or estimated GB/day
- retention:
- per index set, hot data on fast disks
- search:
- data-node | opensearch
- metadata:
- mongodb replica set (rs0)
- transport:
- tls everywhere it is supported
- delivery:
- ansible / terraform in your repository
Every deployment starts from your numbers: how many GB per day you ingest, how long you need to keep it, how many people search it and what happens to the business if logging goes down for an hour. Those answers decide whether you need one well-sized server or a multi-node cluster, and how much disk, memory and I/O each layer requires.
We deploy the three components Graylog depends on — the Graylog server, MongoDB for configuration and metadata, and a search backend built on Graylog Data Node or OpenSearch — and wire them together with TLS, firewalling and a sensible index and retention strategy from day one.
// scope
What a deployment includes
Sizing & topology
CPU, heap, disk and IOPS calculated from ingest rate and retention. Single node, small cluster or full HA — chosen on evidence, not habit.
Search backend
Graylog Data Node or self-managed OpenSearch, in versions supported by your Graylog release. Shard and replica strategy matched to your data.
MongoDB
Replica set where availability matters, authentication enabled, bound to private interfaces only.
Inputs & collection
Syslog (TCP/UDP/TLS), GELF, Beats and OpenTelemetry inputs, plus collector configuration for Linux, Windows, containers and network devices.
Streams, index sets & retention
Separate index sets for workloads with different retention needs, rotation strategies that keep shard sizes healthy.
Hardening & access
TLS on web and inputs, host firewalls, least-privilege roles, SSO/LDAP integration where your edition supports it.

What you receive
- Working Graylog environment with inputs receiving real data
- Architecture document with sizing assumptions and growth limits
- Infrastructure and configuration as code (Terraform / Ansible)
- Runbook: restart order, disk-full procedure, certificate renewal, upgrade path
- Handover session with your team, or transition to our maintenance plan

Common questions
How long does a Graylog deployment take?
A single-node production deployment on existing infrastructure is typically a matter of days once requirements and access are clear. Multi-node clusters with HA, collectors across many hosts and custom processing rules take longer. We give a concrete estimate after the workload review, not before.
Do you deploy Graylog with Docker or native packages?
Both. Native DEB/RPM packages on systemd are the simplest to operate on dedicated VMs. Docker Compose works well for smaller or self-contained environments. We pick based on how your team operates the rest of its infrastructure.
Which Graylog edition do you deploy?
Whichever fits your requirements. Many teams start with Graylog Open. If you need commercial features, you license Graylog Enterprise or Graylog Security from the vendor and we deploy and operate it. See our licensing notes.
