Graylog maintenance, upgrades and troubleshooting

Already running Graylog? We take over existing environments — including ones nobody on the team fully understands anymore.

graylog-maintenance.yaml
first.step:
written health check
priorities:
data loss risk > availability > performance
upgrades:
staged, tested, reversible
changes:
tracked in version control
engagement:
one-off or ongoing
handover:
runbooks kept current

Takeovers start with a structured health check: versions and support status, disk and index state, journal backlog, processing errors, search cluster health, MongoDB state, certificates, backups and access. You get a written report with prioritised findings before any change is made.

From there we either fix the urgent items as a project or move the environment into ongoing maintenance with scheduled upgrades and regular reviews.

// scope

Typical maintenance work

01

Health checks

A full review of the environment with prioritised, actionable findings.

02

Upgrades

Graylog, search backend, MongoDB, Java runtime and OS — in the right order and within compatibility limits.

03

Disk & retention issues

Resolving disk watermark blocks, oversized shards and retention settings that do not match available storage.

04

Input & collector failures

Inputs not receiving, collectors not shipping, TLS handshake failures, parsing and timestamp problems.

05

Performance issues

Growing journals, slow processing pipelines, expensive regex extractors, slow or failing searches.

06

Configuration changes

New inputs, streams, pipelines, index sets, alerting and user management — done cleanly and documented.

Common questions

Can you take over a Graylog environment someone else built?

Yes. That is one of the most common engagements. We start with read-only access and a health check, so there are no surprises for either side.

How often should Graylog be upgraded?

Stay on a version the vendor still supports and apply patch releases for security fixes promptly. Major upgrades are planned events. The vendor publishes end-of-life dates for each version, which we track for you.

Do you offer emergency troubleshooting?

Yes, for environments where we have access and context. For environments we have not seen before, we start with the most urgent issue and follow up with a proper health check.

You have logs. We build and operate the infrastructure that makes them useful.

Tell us about your environment. An engineer will reply with a first architecture outline.
